Ethan Shapiro

Ethan Shapiro is a PhD student in sociology at the University of Toronto. His research interests stand at the intersection between cultural, economic, and cognitive sociology. Currently, his work centres on the relationship between culture and markets, using the craft beer industry as a case to study (1) the social processes through which symbolic goods and their legitimacy are produced, (2) the cultural-cognitive processes through which markets are created, maintained, and transformed, and (3) the role of material objects in shaping meaning and action in economic contexts. Ethan is also a proud member of MAC lab, working with Yagana Samim to improve measures of implicit cognition for sociologists.
